Who: Elly Jackson, a.k.a La Roux
Why she’s beautiful inside and out: La Roux is one half of a British recording duo that makes really fun dance songs, like “Bulletproof” and “I’m Not Your Toy.” One of her hits, called “Quicksand,” has some very lady-lovin’ undertones… You should probably watch the video. Despite questions based on her appearance, La Roux has been emphatic about her heterosexuality. Her embrace of androgyny serves to expand the boundaries of how women are expected to present themselves to the world. Rock on, La Roux!
