Pretty Lady Post: Guidelines

I thought it might be fun, and sort of lighten the mood around here, if I started doing Pretty Lady Posts (PLPs). Even the most fearless femmes need a breather! However, I have some concerns, or really one MAJOR concern, which is as follows: I do not want this blog to devolve into a stereotypical mainstream magazine-type environment, where ogling and objectifying women is not only accepted, but promoted.

THAT BEING SAID. I don’t think that there is harm in appreciating beauty, so long as it is done respectfully and with regard for the subject as a whole person, not simply as an object to lust after. In fact, I think images, when viewed properly, can prove the strength inherent in femininity – one of the missions of this site. Additionally, the right images viewed in the right way can increase visibility and demolish stereotypes. Pictures are powerful, especially in today’s media-driven society.

With all of this in mind, I want to set forth some guidelines for PLPs. These rules are intended to clarify the role of this style of post, and are designed to uphold the safe space, goals, and values of femme on a mission:

1. Images will be presented with a short bio of the person pictured, in an effort to present the figure as a whole human being worthy of our appreciation for both her inner and outer beauty.

2. I will do my part by only speaking positively of the person pictured; I kindly ask the readers to do the same. Any and all negative comments will be removed immediately.

3. The people pictured will be diverse, with the goal of increasing acceptance and visibility for people of all ages, sizes, gender presentations, identities and orientations.

4. I will only choose images that depict females in positions of strength and power – so no demure princesses or slouching waifs. This will not be easy – have you seen the fashion industry? – but femme on a mission is about feminine empowerment, and that goal has to be respected in every post.

Alright, how does this sound? Am I a hypocrite? It’s okay, you can tell me. Please, if you have any concerns and/or guidelines you’d like to add, let me know! Also I am certainly open to suggestions if there is anyone you really want to see featured here!
